A recent change has been the addition of "competencies" to the Partner Network to help customers see where partners have specific skills that directly relate to the customer needs.
A competency is a measure within the Microsoft Partner Network of skill, dedication and client satisfaction in a specific area of the Microsoft technology and product stack.
In order for a partner to earn a competency they need to demonstrate technical excellence and have that excellence validated by satisfied clients through references and surveys to ensure that the excellence is maintained.
